The three-episode documentary aired on China Central Television, ‘Masters in the Forbidden City’, which focuses on the restorers and delivers the core idea of craftsmanship perfectly, has drawn huge public attention to Palace Museum itself.
Among all the departments, clock restoration sector is certainly the most popular one. The restorers, Mr. Wang Jin and Mr. Qi Haonan, are seen as the most charismatic masters by the audience.
During the exhibition of ‘Treasures of Time’ held by both Palace Museum and Hong Kong Science Museum in 2019, we’ve invited Mr. Qi Haonan, one of the official restorers in the museum, to talk about the huge antique clock collection which mostly once belonged to the emperors of Qing Dynasty.

Qi Haonan and his teacher Wang Jin were the only two masters in charge of the antique timepiece restoration in the Palace Museum. Starred in the three-episode documentary series ‘Masters in Forbidden City’, the two masters have gained a huge popularity among the audience in the country with their marvelous skills and personal charisma.
